Where to stay in Cinque Terre comes down to picking one village over another, since there is no official village-by-village price list for hotels in Cinque Terre. No park body, tourism board or comune publishes one. So this page does the next best thing. We ran a live hotel search for each of the five villages plus the two gateway towns, La Spezia and Levanto, and recorded what a night actually cost for two adults. The result is a set of price bands, one per base. You will not find any hotel named or ranked here. We did not check any single property against a citable list or its own site this pass, so no individual property can be fairly recommended by name. What you get instead is the middle half of prices in each village, what kind of accommodation sits behind those numbers, and the practical trade-offs that should decide where you sleep. Cars cannot reach the historic centres of four of the five villages, the train line threads all seven bases together, and the price gap between the cheapest and the dearest base on this page is roughly double. That combination of facts, more than any postcard view, is what should pick your base.

There is no single best village to stay in the Cinque Terre. Monterosso is the most expensive base in the middle half of prices and the only one with a real sandy beach. Vernazza, Corniglia and Riomaggiore sit in a cheaper band around $99-$177. Manarola sits between them. La Spezia is the cheapest base of all at $84-$105 and sits on the same rail line, about a short train ride from Riomaggiore. Levanto, at the north end of the line, runs $125-$175. If you want to wake up inside a village, pick the village whose shape suits you. If you want the lowest bill and easy logistics, pick a gateway town. The bands below come from a Google Hotels search run on 2026-09-24 for the night of 14-15 October 2026, two adults, in US dollars. The band is the middle half of the properties that carried a rate that day, so it strips out the extremes.

The case for sleeping in a village
Staying inside a village means the day-trippers leave and you have the lanes to yourself in the evening. You can walk out for dinner without watching a train timetable. It also puts the trails at your doorstep.
A Cinque Terre Trekking Card costs US$11.37 (€10) for one day or US$19.32 (€17) for two, and a Treno MS card, which adds unlimited second-class trains on the line, is US$25.00 (€22) for one day or US$41.50 (€36.50) for two. Every base on this page sits on or near the same line those cards cover. The cost of that convenience is real.
Monterosso's middle-half band of $165-$203 is roughly double La Spezia's $84-$105, and village rooms are few. In Manarola and Riomaggiore only 10 of 18 listed properties carried a rate on our search date.
The case for La Spezia
La Spezia is a working city off the coast, on the same railway line, and it was the cheapest base in our search at $84-$105 in the middle half with a median of $93. All 17 of its listed properties carried a rate, the fullest availability of any base we checked. You trade a commute for that.
Trains from La Spezia Centrale reach Riomaggiore first, and the fare structure on the line is a flat single price by date band rather than by distance. The case for Levanto
Levanto sits at the north end of the line, one stop beyond Monterosso. Its middle-half band was $125-$175 with a median of $149, cheaper than Monterosso and dearer than La Spezia. It is a real town with a beach of its own, so it suits travellers who want sand and services without village prices.

So which is best?
There is no single right answer. Choose a village if being inside one after dark matters to you and the extra $60-$100 a night fits the budget. Choose La Spezia if it does not.
A useful middle path is three or four nights in a gateway town with one splurge night in a village, timed to catch the sunset boat tour with aperitivo or the sunset cruise with swim stop before bed.
What Kind of Room You Will Actually Find
Small guesthouses, not hotel brands
Across all seven of our searches, most individually listed properties were small guesthouses, affittacamere (room-rental businesses) or bed-and-breakfasts rather than large hotel-brand properties. Vernazza's list, for example, mixed apartment and suite style listings with a handful of pensione-style hotels. That shapes your stay in practical ways.
Expect a host rather than a 24-hour front desk, expect to arrange arrival times, and expect rooms in converted old houses rather than standardized hotel rooms. We could have listed properties with the highest rates or the most reviews. We did not, because no single property was checked against a citable list or its own site on this pass, and no Wengen-style per-hotel rate list could be sourced either. Quoting a name with an unchecked star rating would be guessing dressed up as advice.

Picking a Base: Dos and Don'ts
Do
- Do decide between beach, harbour, cliff-quiet and price before you search rooms. Those are the four things that actually differ between the villages.
- Do budget the village extras. Monterosso charges US$3.41 (€3) per person per night of tourist tax, and other comunes' 2026 rates were not confirmed.
- Do price a Treno MS card at US$25.00 (€22) a day if you base outside the villages. It covers unlimited second-class trains on the line.
- Do book early for Manarola and Riomaggiore. Only 10 of 18 listed properties carried a rate in each on our search date.
- Do test your dates against the best time to visit, since the same room swings widely between seasons.
Don't
- Don't assume you can drive to your hotel. Cars cannot enter the historic centres of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Vernazza or Corniglia. Read our parking guide before renting a car.
- Don't book Corniglia with heavy luggage in mind unless you are ready for 377 Lardarina steps, or plan on the shuttle bus.
- Don't treat these bands as summer prices. They describe one sample night in mid October for two adults.
- Don't trust any page that ranks individual village hotels without a checkable source. No official per-hotel rate list exists for the Cinque Terre.

Getting In and Out With Luggage
One line, seven bases, no car needed
You do not need a car to reach any base on this page. The single railway line runs Levanto, Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore and La Spezia Centrale, and the Cinque Terre Express reinforced service runs from mid-March to early November. Single fares are set in three date-based bands, at €5 ($5.68), €8 ($9.09) or €10 ($11.37) for adults regardless of distance, with children aged 4 to 11 at half.
That makes a gateway town base painless. The exceptions are stairs. Corniglia adds the Lardarina, 33 ramps and 377 steps, unless you take the shuttle bus, and the car-free historic centres of Vernazza, Manarola and Riomaggiore mean cobbles and slopes between station and door.

See the Coast Before You Book
A boat or kayak trip is a good way to see how the five villages sit together before you commit to one as a base. The coast reads differently from the water. From Monterosso you see how Fegina's beach fronts the whole northern end of the park. From a boat you also see why Corniglia has no pier.
